What is Wound Debridement?
Debridement is a procedure used to remove dead, damaged, or infected tissue from wounds. Wound debridement is designed for both acute and chronic wounds. Making sure to get the wound debrided helps to prevent infection.

Unlike a regular clinician, a wound care specialist has the knowledge to develop individualized treatment based on your specific wound, health issues, clinical history, and personal preferences. They will then develop a care plan using this information, to help speed your recovery and healing.
What is the Primary Cause of Non-Healing Wounds?
A non-healing wound is referred to as a chronic wound. A chronic wound does not show any signs of healing within the first four weeks and does not heal completely within eight weeks. It is prone to becoming infectious and may result in other complications. It has distinctive symptoms, including pus, foul smell, numbness around the wound area and color change. The causes of non-healing wounds are vast. Some wounds, including poor blood circulation, malnutrition, infection, low immunity, pre-existing chronic illnesses such as diabetes, edema and repetitive trauma to the wound are a few examples.
What are Diabetic Foot Ulcers?
Ulcers and sores on the feet pose a unique threat to diabetics. Diabetic ulcers are those which develop on the foot of a person with diabetes. For diabetic patients, foot ulcers are one of the most frequent causes of hospital visits. Ulcers can be problematic and take weeks, or even months, to heal. The ulcers do not usually cause pain however they can lead to additional issues. Since these issues can cause many problems it is especially important for diabetics to take care of their feet.
What is a Skin Ulcer?
A skin ulcer is an open wound on the skin. It can be caused by infections, by a pressure sore, or by vein problems. Treatments will depend on the cause of the ulcer. Venous skin ulcers, the most common, are shallow wounds which occur when the leg veins don't return blood back toward the heart properly. These ulcers usually form on the lower leg, above the ankle, and beneath the calf.
